Australian children are not consuming enough long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids for optimal health

Australian children are not consuming enough long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids for optimal health
Using the data from the Australian Social Science Data Archive, Meyer & Kolanu obtained the necessary information from 4486 children, ranging from 2 to 16 year old. Most children met the adequate intake for α-linoleic acid, but only about half met the adequate intake for long chain omega-3 PUFAs. Only 6% met the adjusted suggested dietary target for omega-3 PUFAs.
Therefore, most Australian children need to increase their intake of omega-3 PUFAs for optimal health.

Fish oil containing omega-3 can be found in PM Procare (Pregnancy & Breastfeeding formula) and PM Bright Kids (omega-3 supplement).
